March 2012

Buckwheat Ski Race - March 24, 2012

This annual International Ski Race happens on Saturday at Log Cabin in British Columbia. Join hundreds of skiers from around the globe on a variety of ski length races through the snowy woods. Breakfast and dinner included in price of entry.

 

May 2012

First Ship of the season: May 4, 2012

The season begins with the arrival of the Carnival Spirit Cruise Ship.

 

June 2012

Third Annual NorthWords Writers Conference - May 30-June 2, 2012

Annual Fran Delisle Cancer Awareness Walk - Saturday June 2, 2012

Sign up to walk from Dyea to Skagway, get sponsors and walk with friends on this walk to raise money and awareness. Contact Candace Cahill for details.

 

Second Annual Skagway Marathon - Saturday June 9, 2012

This new event will leave Skagway and run up the Dyea road to West Creek and back,

a distance of 26 miles. There is also a half marathon up the Dyea Road and back - 13 miles.

Both runs are free, sign up on the web page.

Annual Elks Summer Solstice Party - June  2012

This fun event happens at the ball fields across the river from town. Everyone is invited, food booths, beer garden and games.

Pat Moore Memorial Game Fish Derby - July 2012

For the past six years, this derby has offered families, kids and eager anglers a chance to get out

in the fresh ocean air and fish for cash prizes and gift certificates from local merchants. Large and

small fish win prizes as do age groups and men and women categories.

An avid fisherman, Pat Moore died from complications of Lou Gehrig disease or ALS. The derby

was named in his honor and to salute his sportsmanship and devotion to sustaining fish

populations in the Taiya Watershed, where he helped out in the local fish hatcheries and passed

on his love of fishing to many people. Contact:

September 2012

Klondike International Road Relay - September 7-8, 2012

The race starts Friday evening and ontinues all night along the road. This 110 mile relay race that begins in Skagway, Alaska ends in Whitehorse, Yukon on Saturday afternoon. Teams of 10 members from all over the world compete in this event. (The road is open to regular traffic)

Yuletide December 2012

The annual Yuletide Ball in the evening at the Recreation Center (13th and Main). Many additional activities and contests in town. From dancing to shopping to just walking around an old gold rush town, Yuletide is a fun time for locals and visitors alike. Call Katherine at the Skagway Recreation Center for details: 907 983-2679
