Annual Events

Skagway loves its celebrations! We race, we dance, we eat, we create, we love a good parade and we love sharing our joy of life with visitors.

March

Shake off the winter blues at the Buckwheat International Ski Classic. Started in 1987, the cross-country ski race, features various race distances for adults, as well as a 5K for kids 12 & younger. Spend your day racing & playing the groomed trails of Log Cabin BC. Cap off the day with a  awards, then dance the night away as the party moves to the downtown bars.

April

Celebrate the change of seasons at Spring Festival! See what we do over the winter at the Skagway Arts Council’s Spring Show of Winter Artwork, help make a difference as we clean up litter during the town wide Clean Sweep. Support local artists by shopping the spring market & take in the local talent as musicians showcase their talents during Skagway’s International Folk Festival.

May

"Ya aaní káa has du shkalneegí yaa nas.áx̱" (On this land their stories are sounding off - Tlingit) is the theme of the annual North Words Writers Symposium. Ignite your creative talents through workshops, discussions, great food, and fun activities with a renowned keynote author and published Alaska-Northwest authors who will help you sound off your stories.

June

Celebrations in the sun abound as the long daylight hours beckon us outdoors. Run or walk through lush rainforest in the Fran DeLisle Cancer Awareness Walkathon and Duff’s Skagway Marathon. Show your Pride during Skagway’s Pride Celebration weekend. Celebrate the longest day of the year with family fun, music & food at the Elks Summer Solstice party

Summer

The spirit of freedom shines strong as Skagway’s downtown streets transform into an old-fashioned Independence Day Street party on July 4th, complete with music, games and street food. If great music with a view is your thing, the Skagway Arts Council’s Blues, Brews & BBQ and other outdoor music festivals will have you tapping your toes as you reach for the sun screen.

September

Grab a bunch of friends & run all night across the border into Canada’s Yukon Territory. Sound’s crazy, right? Klondike Road Relay is an annual tradition in the North. Relay teams from all over the world compete to make it from Skagway, Alaska to Whitehorse, Yukon in this fundraiser for Sport Yukon.

October

A favorite month of many Skagweigans. Enjoy fall colors and crisp autumn days as you take in the fun of Fall Festival: A celebration of art, music & life in the north.

December

December means Yuletide in Skagway. Kick off a month of festivities with the annual tree lighting. Yuletide festivities include artisan bazaars, a quilt show, kids activities dances, live music and more!
